Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Consultation-liaison psychiatry deals with the understanding and advancement of medical science, education, and the provision of healthcare for medically ill patients. The incumbent should have expertise in academic teaching and direct patient care. Psychiatry consultation services are provided to medical inpatients, emergency department patients and other populations as needed. The staff member would be active in teaching medical students, psychiatry residents and other trainees across all mental health disciplines and professions. The position carries the potential of a Volunteer Faculty appointment at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. The consultative liaison psychiatrist works at the medical-psychiatric/mental health interface at the Sacramento VA Medical Center to help with patient care, education/training, research/evaluation and administration.
